For those that don't pay attention.....I am heading to Yosemite for my normally fruitless attempt to become hopelessly lost (sometimes it sucks being "directionally literate") in the Sierra Nevada. While Yosemite is overrun with hapless tourists it also is a place of stark natural beauty created by the nastiest force known to man, a glacier. Natures trash. Push ice, pile it a mile high, destroy everything in its path, leave the rest for us to come visit 10,000 years later.
When you think of the violence used to create the valley, you gotta wonder "how the fuck did that happen" (see above) I have heard of crop circles and all, but is this a black hole into a parallel universe? This rock, or boulder is in the middle of the Merced River that cuts through Yosemite valley. Among others, are boulders that are 30-40 feet in diameter that were pushed down the valley by the ice flow, the rocks that awe you with their size.
I love being surrounded by the shear vertical walls of the valley and looking up into brilliant cobalt skies. Trees that are dusted with snow add to the contrast to make for good photography, even from a hack like me.
Low clouds made for this shot of the northern rim of the valley which in minutes cleared to the aforementioned cobalt skies, ironically it was snowing on the southern edge at the same time.
Last time we were there we trekking around and came across a cemetery. I later learned it was called the Pioneer Cemetery. As we approached then realized it was a cemetery, I stopped and turned to my wife and told her "here is where you can dump my body when I die".......to which she replied "sure, honey"
Another one I really like, the little thatch of reddish pine needles hanging by themselves.
now were it not for the power lines strung up by a company whose acronym really stands for Pigs, Goats and Elephants, this shot would be priceless. There is always Photoshop.
This is a shot of the stream below Bridalveil Falls.
Ahhhhhh, springtime in the Sierras, I need to leave city life forever.......and never look back. Too many fucking people for me, too many attitudes, too many assholes....just too much of everything, but peace and quiet.
